Being Bold in the Bedroom
Karen opens the door on the bedroom and makes it her mission to introduce a little excitement.
Being Bold in the Bedroom
The bedroom is no longer just a place to lay your head after a long day of toil. Whether you work outside the home or within its walls, it's a place of great significance and important to your wellbeing.
It's often the first choice for a private sanctuary to retreat to when a little respite is in order. In providing an escape from the outside world, for even a short while, a beautiful bedroom can be an invitation to relax and unwind, taking pleasure in the fact you're safe and secure in a tranquil space you've created for yourself. And by filling it with items you love and cherish, your bedroom becomes a true reflection of your personality.
Because it's a private space, you can really express your individual style in quite a dramatic way. Unlike the main entertaining areas of your home, the bedroom isn't on show to the world, so decorating choices can be bolder. It's your chance to be daring and express yourself with colour, prints and patterns.
When selecting bedding and curtains don't be afraid to mix patterns and prints, as well as incorporate different textures into the choices you make. Frills and flounces are fine for a time, but when there are two of you, think of your other half and find a style you'll both enjoy.
Purchasing a quality mattress and bed will ensure you have that sensational night's sleep you've been longing for. But if it's an instant update you're after, simply change the linen. A lovely new quilt cover can work miracles in freshening the overall look of a room, while throws and cushions add texture and warmth and bring the whole theme together. And, in my opinion, the more cushions you pile on the bed, the better the effect. This is one design rule I follow to the letter, as all my friends will attest.
Remember to decorate with pieces you love and that have special significance to you, as well as incorporating photos of loved ones to really create a story about your life.
I love groupings of photos arranged in block formations with the same frames, as they give a real designer look to everyday family snaps.
A well-placed rug in a bedroom will have maximum effect in giving your private space a really luxurious feel. Imagine sinking your toes into a soft shag pile each morning as you step out of bed.
Ensuring there is plenty of storage is an important consideration if you want to get the most benefit from your bedroom. You'll never find the peace and quiet you're seeking if clutter intrudes on your mind. Sometimes a good tidy-up is the best way to get your thoughts in order along with your room.
If space allows, introduce a few decorator pieces such as artificial flowers or textural sticks arranged in urns or pots to give the room an extra element of style. If you're blessed with green fingers, bring in a few suitable plants and add a natural 'wow' factor.
You can't go past lamps and soft lighting to foster a restful mood and create an intimate feeling.
And when all the pieces fit together, you need only add an armchair and your room is ready for you to relax with a novel or magazine - or to simply admire your handiwork and start enjoying the fruits of your labour.
